I once heard someone say, “Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.” This is very true. I feel that no procession means as much as being debt free. There is nothing that you can buy with a credit card that can be as powerful as not owing on your credit cards. I cannot think of anything that I enjoy making payments on. I can see a sense of accomplishment in seeing the balance on my mortgage decreasing, but that is about it. I am not sure my college education has benefitted me to this point, because I got my degree at age 45.

I am fortunate to have a house that is valued at more than what is owed on it. And I have a loan that has a fixed rate. So, as long as I can stay employed, it should all be good.

Our health is something that many of us take for granted until something goes wrong. Then all of sudden we find ourselves trying to make up for many years of poor habits. Often times, moderate exercise and a small weight loss is all it takes to reverse these conditions, if you catch them early.

My Weight Loss Challenge

My weight loss challenge is to lose 40 pounds in the next 6 months. And I will say that 6 months is a tentative timeline. If it takes longer, I am okay with that. As long as I am moving the right direction, it will all be good. I already know what will be the hardest thing for me to deal with and that is my emotions. I eat when I am bored and angry and it seems like I am angry a lot of the time.

I am very frustrated with my job and there are things about it that anger me that I have no control over. I try to keep the serenity prayer in mind so that I can work through the emotions, but I am not always successful. It will probably be a year before I will be able to make any career changes. I must keep in mind that the more healthy choices I make in all aspects of my life, the sooner I will reach my goal of being able to leave my job and achieve my weight loss goal.

I have had cats almost all of my adult life. When we lost the last one we said we would not have any more cats. Well, that lasted about a year. We gave our son’s girlfriend permission to get him a cat for his birthday. About a week before his birthday, they found a stray and she was his birthday present. We named her Mary Jane. She weighed 4.5 pounds and was very thin from trying to survive on her own. Ten days later Mary Jane had 2 kittens.

They have been healthy for the most part with the exception of their dental health. Mary got what seemed like a cold. It turned out that her gums were diseased and she had to have most of her teeth removed. She has made a complete recovery and she acts like a kitten again. She has shiny and full coat. She is active and healthy.

We kept both of her kittens. The vet told us that gum disease is generally genetic and we knew before taking her male kitten (now 3 and a half years old) to that vet that his gums were also diseased. He had one of his teeth removed and had a deep cleaning. His personality has not been the same since that time. He is having problems using the litter box and that was never an issue before. We think it is due to stress or pain, but we are still trying to figure it out. It is upsetting to see him under such stress.

The Cost of a Dental Implant

I went to the Endodontist today thinking that I was having an old root canal retreated. I have been having trouble with these 2 teeth for about 6 months. There really has been no pain, but they just felt different. Finally after some looking and contemplation, my regular dentist informed me that I need a root canal, a cavity removed and 2 crowns. I got the root canal and the first crown without incident. The cavity was removed and a temporary crown was put in place while I waited to see the Endodontist to have the root canal retreated.

About half way through the procedure, the Endodontist got a strange look on her face and announced that there were a few things we needed to discuss. Now most people know that coming from a doctor or a dentist, that is not usually good news. She stated that my tooth had a hole through it and could not be fixed. It will have to be extracted and I will need either a bridge or an implant. The Endo was partial to the implant, because the bridge will ruin the crowns on both sides of the tooth. I understand that an implant is a good option. But I have also heard that they are expensive and not all insurance plans will cover them. At a quick glance, the internet is saying $1250-$3000 per tooth.

One of the things I enjoy most is learning. Learning keeps your mind sharp, active and healthy. I am at a point in my life where everything I learn about is of my own choosing. It is not class that is needed to meet a degree requirement. I have recently paid for a project instruction that I feel will help me take my business to the next level. I am so excited about the upcoming opportunity.

Reading is a big passion of mine and one of the cheapest way to learn. I am a person that has no desire to read nonfiction. If I cannot learn something from what I am reading, I will quickly lose interest and move onto something else. I am currently reading “The Nine Steps to Financial Freedom” by Suze Orman and I am really enjoying it. I have read a large number of books about personal finance.

I am 3-6 months away from being consumer debt free and it has been along time coming. But as I plugged away at paying off thousands of dollars in debt, I figured I might as well learn as much as I could about getting out of debt, investing, preparing for retirement and starting a business. These books have helped me get where I am today and have helped me focus on what I want for the future. As long as I have a sound mind, I will be looking for new things to learn.
